Mask Policy Update

July 21, 2020 By Littleton Food Co-op

We want to thank you all for the overwhelming support for our safety practices – there have been lots of changes and we really appreciate your patience and cooperation along the way. Starting Wednesday July 22, masks will be mandatory for every person over 2 years of age who enters the Co-op, without exceptions.

We will be strictly enforcing this new face covering policy in the store, for the safety of our staff and customers. Masks or face coverings must be worn correctly, and should cover the nose as well as the mouth. If you do not have a face covering you will be offered a free disposable mask by a member of our management team.

For those of you who are unable to wear a mask for medical reasons, or who are unwilling to wear a face covering, we offer a reasonable accommodation via our Curbside Pickup Service. Just place your order online, let us do the shopping, and when it’s ready we bring it out to your car! This free, flexible service is available through our website at www.littletoncoop.com/curbside.

Again, thank you all for your patience and understanding in these difficult times. We care about our community and wear masks for your health – please do the same for us!

September is National Family Meals Month

September 4, 2019 By Littleton Food Co-op

Eating at home together as a family at least once a week has a positive impact on the health and well being of children (and grownups, and probably your pets, too…. everyone’s family is different!). This September we’re celebrating National Family Meals Month, a nationwide event promoting the benefits sitting down together and sharing a meal.

It seems like a simple thing, but we all know how tough it can be to make dinner happen when life is super busy. Everyone has different schedules, it’s daunting to figure out what to cook and get all the ingredients, and sometimes you’re all on weird diets or someone at the table is a picky eater (we’re not naming names).

But hey, we can help! The folks here at the co-op can totally help you figure out easy meal solutions in just about every aisle of the store. We’ve got recipes. We’ve got local, healthy, organic, fair trade, non-gmo, gluten free, and vegan ingredients – whatever you like! We can help you figure out how to cook on a budget. We can help you make a huge batch of something so you have plenty of leftovers. We can help you plan a brunch, or a picnic, or high tea, or tapas! We can help you make something gourmet. We can help you pick out a beverage and dessert to go with it. We can point you to the organic frozen tv dinners….. which are pretty tasty, actually. And we have ready-made hot specials in our deli you can just grab and take home, which is pretty awesome and convenient.

So plan a night this week to sit down at the table and eat together! Life’s too short to miss out on sitting down to eat good food with the people you love, and it makes a big difference. See you at the co-op!

Biggest Little Farm Film Premiere

August 3, 2019 By Becky Colpitts

THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT

Reminder: If you have a ticket, be sure to bring it with you to the event, since seating is limited!

We’re kicking off Eat Local Month with a fabulous free movie and a celebration of local food and farmers!

We are pleased to present the premiere evening for Biggest Little Farm, one of the most popular and acclaimed independent films this year. Before the show we’ll have a fabulous red carpet reception, so dress up in your barnyard best – overalls, boots, bling, mud, and sequins! Meet local farmers and enjoy an array of summery hors d’ouvres sourced from Meadowstone Farm, along with a cash bar provided by the Colonial.

This event is free and open to the public. Seating is Limited! Tickets will be available starting Friday July 12 at Littleton Food Co-op.  Stay tuned for details on specific movie times and reception details.

Synopsis

A testament to the immense complexity of nature, The Biggest Little Farm follows two dreamers and a dog on an odyssey to bring harmony to both their lives and the land. When the barking of their beloved dog Todd leads to an eviction notice from their tiny LA apartment, John and Molly Chester make a choice that takes them out of the city and onto 200 acres in the foothills of Ventura County, naively endeavoring to build one of the most diverse farms of its kind in complete coexistence with nature. The land they have chosen, however, is utterly depleted of nutrients and suffering from a brutal drought. The film chronicles eight years of daunting work and outsize idealism as they attempt to create the utopia they seek, planting 10,000 orchard trees and over 200 different crops, and bringing in animals of every kind– including an unforgettable pig named Emma and her best friend, Greasy the rooster. When the farm’s ecosystem finally begins to reawaken, so does the Chesters’ hope – but as their plan to create perfect harmony takes a series of wild turns, they realize that to survive they will have to reach a far greater understanding of the intricacies and wisdom of nature, and of life itself.

Critical Reviews

This documentary may rid you of your fantasies of farm life, but it may also revive your wonder at the weird but ultimately awe-inspiring ways in which humans can help nature do its work. Glenn Kenny, The NYTimes

This powerful, deeply personal documentary is both a memoir and an exploration of the Chesters’ quest to make their dream of living on a fully sustainable farm come true. Sandie Angulo Chen, Common Sense Media

Meet the Author: Grocery Story by Jon Steinman

April 30, 2019 By Littleton Food Co-op

Food has become ground-zero in our efforts to increase awareness of how our choices impact the world. Yet while we have begun to transform our communities and dinner plates, the most authoritative strand of the food web has received surprisingly little attention: the grocery store—the epicenter of our food-gathering ritual.

Through penetrating analysis and inspiring stories and examples of American and Canadian food co-ops, Grocery Story makes a compelling case for the transformation of the grocery store aisles as the emerging frontier in the local and good food movements. Author Jon Steinman:

  • Deconstructs the food retail sector and the shadows cast by corporate giants
  • Makes the case for food co-ops as an alternative
  • Shows how co-ops spur the creation of local food-based economies and enhance low-income food access.

Grocery Story is for everyone who eats. Whether you strive to eat more local and sustainable food, or are in support of community economic development, Grocery Story will leave you hungry to join the food co-op movement in your own community.

Meet Author Jon Steinman here in the co-op cafe on April 30th from 10am – 6:30pm.  Jon will be here during the day starting at 10 am selling copies of his book, and then from 5 – 6:30 pm he will be doing a reading and book signing. This event is free to the public. RSVP is helpful so we can better keep track of logistics and attendance for events like these!
